Attendance data has disappeared from my Moodle Course

Answer

In the Course Settings please make sure not to select (or to deselect) the “Calculate the end date from the number of sections” option, and to set the course dates properly. That option tends to override the course start date; this, in turn, has the attendance data disappearing until the proper dates are restored.
