Can I upload a work by another author which they have uploaded to a sharing academic platform (such as Academia.edu or ResearchGate) to Moodle?

Answer

It is recommended to avoid it, because the work might have been uploaded by the authors themselves in a breach of the publishing contract. It would be preferable to use a link that redirects to the work, warning the students that they will be able to access the work only after subscribing to the specific social network (if necessary)

Academia.edu and ResearchGate, and similar platforms, are neither institutional repositories nor open archives: they are, in fact, privately owned social platforms designed for the sharing of academic materials.

Linking or redirecting to materials hosted within institutional repositories is allowed, always within the limits of each institution’s policies.
